When I turn on my computer (XP Home) and at the completion of booting up, I
can't access the internet in Internet Explorer or Outlook Express for 85
seconds, however, if I click Atom Time Pro it retrieves the correct time. I
access the network via a cable modem that is always on. My firewall is
Sygate Personal Firewall Pro. I re-installed XP but still have the problem.
Anyone know what causes this delay?

Bob

Network initialization can cause an excessive boot time.

You probably need to do a combination of things. First,
check your System and Application logs for any errors.
Services depend on each other, and if a Service attempts
to start and one of it's dependency services isn't running
then you'll get a timeout. Any Red icons in the event logs
should be resolved.

Next try BootVis - (Just for visualization). Run a trace &
look at the time line from around 45 seconds till 90 and
see what processes are starting or running during that time
frame.

If you are broadband, you can trim some time off boot up
by not using DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol).
But instead giving your network card fixed values.

I found bootvis.msi and ran it to install microsoft bootvis.exe. Nowhere do
I see instructions on how to use it to monitor the boot up process. Could I
get a 1 minute tutorial?

I need a little more that 2 words. How do I get a trace of the first 90
seconds of boot up? How can I run bootvis at the start of bootup?
