I use Windows XP Pro and lately get a message that says:

StartService - The system cannot find the file specified

Then the only option is OK

Then another dropdown window says:
Can't start Kernel Mode Driver Service

Again only OK

Once that is clicked all seems totally normal.

I went a couple times to MSCONFIG and looked very carefully for a
"StartService" program. It is not there.

I also went to SEARCH and again it cannot find StartService.

I also see no such program under All Programs.
What can it be?

I have done virus check and Spybot and it finds nothing.

ASUSHWIO.DLL is apparently the Kernel Mode Driver Service. Has something to
so with Asus motherboards, I think.

ascddmi.dll may also be related.

StartService, in this case, is possibly Svchost.exe.

Svchost.exe is a generic host process name for services that run from
dynamic-link libraries (DLLs). At startup, Svchost.exe checks the services
part of the registry to construct a list of services that it must load.

You can look in Services to see if the Kernel Mode Driver Service is listed
and if there is any description.

Open Services...
Start | Run | Type: services.msc | Click OK |
Look for Kernel Mode Driver Service

I have no idea if it is listed there or in the Device Manager.

Open Device Manager...
Start | Run | Type: devmgmt.msc | Click OK |
View menu | Select Show hidden devices |
Click on the [+] next to Non-Plug and Play Drivers |
