Tim

Hi there,

On boot up my computer has started with a box 'StartService' The Service
Database is locked when I click OK then get another box again 'StartService'
Can't start Kernel Mode Driver Service.

Any idea what this is and how to stop it. It had just started so did a
format and clean install all programs installed without a problem and then
loaded Norton AV 2003 then this message started. So far haven't found any
reference to this is on MS knowledge base or the Symantec web site.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks, Tim.

A copy of the actual Error Report from Event Viewer would be helpful.

Make an exact note of the precise text of any error message. Minor
discrepancies can
make it harder to search for information about the error message.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer.
When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event
ID, Source
and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&Product=winxp

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click
for further information and you can copy using copy and paste.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the
error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two
pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your
message
(email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the
info from the
Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make
sure this is
the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.

In Event Viewer there is no facility to print Error Reports. A
workaround is copy and
paste the Error Report into an email, send it to yourself and print off
the copy in your
Inbox or your Sent Items folder.

Hi there,

First off as I said in my first post I kept getting a 'StartService' box
clicked OK on that got another 'StartService' box clicked OK on that and
finished booting normally, now those 2 boxes don't appear but I do have in
Event Viewer, Application error event id 4609 and in Event Viewer, System, 3
error event id's 10005.

What I'm trying to do is track these errors and sort them as obviously
something is wrong?

Hope that helps, Tim.

Hi there,

After Ghosting back to a basic install and by checking every software
install I finally found the culprit good old Creative drivers for my Audigy
2 ZS they were/are causing the StartService issue which must then also cause
the event id errors. Must be a Windows or Norton update that has upset the
Creative drivers as it has only just started, even only installing the
Creative sound drivers causes the issue and downloading the latest Creative
drivers does not resolve the problem, so for now removed the card and no
more problems.

Now have to find a solution or a different sound card.

Many thanks for all your help, Tim.
