Starting Xp from external drive.

I formated my Compaq laptop HD. My only working CD is external. I
loaded XP from the external CD to the hard drive. But drivers are not
loaded for modem, etc. Compacq has a 4 disk set of Systenm Recovery,
but it does not recognize the external CD drive. Says Drive Q not
found. Any suggestions?

Is this a PCMCIA CD-ROM? If so, sgo into the BIOS and find the Boot
Sequence/First boot selector and set the first device to PCMCIA. Make sure
you have the first CD/bootable CD in the PCMCIA CD-ROM.
If it's a USB CD-ROM, try and find the same option in the BIOS for USB if it
supports it.
