starting windows in safe mode

I am try to install Nortons Systemworks Pro, the
installation software failed. After going around and around
with their techs, they told me to install Systemworks
manually from Windows XP in safe mode. I don't know how to
start Windows in safe mode. Can someone, please help?

There is no way to install something from safe mode as the windows installer
does not run in safe mode.
The thing to try would be to go to the msconfig utility, by typing it in the
run line, then choosing a selective startup and choosing the startup tab.
Deselect all the checkmarks on this tab, then apply, restart the computer
and try to install the program again. It may be having a problem trying to
install with one of the programs that are in the computer.
