After learning here that I need a host w/ ASP to use my FP2000 and
Access2000, I thought I might ought to make sure I don't make any more
mistakes. Since I'm just starting this project, it wouldn't be to hard to
make changes now. So, the following explains where I'm going, what is the
best way to get there?
I am creating an user review site (analogous to restaurant reviews). I had
an Access database set up w/ 2 tables. One for the site and another for
the reviews. I thought this would be the easiest way to get multiple
reviews for each site. I also want people to register a user name so
people can track the people who provide the better reviews. Since the type
of reviews I am actually tracking would be vehicle travel related, I would
like to be able to integrate some type of routing function. i.e. If you are
driving from Dallas to Orlando, you could search for all of the "good" (or
any criteria) restaurants along your path.
I am trying to think ahead and hope it becomes popular. Should I stick w/
Access or make the move to some type of SQL (msSQL or MSSQL)? I guess I
could start w/ Access and migrate to SQL later?
Other than ASP, FP extensions, and Access, what other minimums should I
look for in a host? Any benefits to a host w/ Windows Server 2003 over
2000?
As noted, I am currently using FP & Access 2000. Should I keep these or
upgrade to FP2003 and/or Access2003?
TIA,
Doug
