Starting Newsgroups Page

J

Jason

I am using Outlook XP.

When I click on the <View> tab and select news Outlook
Express 6 opens to the main page.
OE never opened before when I selected news.
What can I do so that I get the newsgroups page instead
of the OE main page?

Maybe I wasn't clear with my problem.

I use Outlook XP. When I want to access newsgroups I
click on the <news> button. It then launches OE and
stops on the main page.
My problem is that I can't get the <news> button to
startup the newsreader, I have to do that from the OE
main page.
How can I get the newsreader to start opening instead of
OE?

Make sure Outlook (not OE) is set as your default news reader in Control
Panel.

J

Jason

OE was default I changed it to Outlook.
But still no luck.
Any other suggestions?

How can one set Outlook as the news reader in the control panel when the
only option is OE?
If you set NO news reader then the News button opens a Windows explorer
panel of files.
(I will recreate this and describe better if required).

It would be better if you just posted your Outlook and OE versions. Don't
assume that the solutions posted for one version apply to another. They most
certainly do not.

It sounds like the O.P. is saying that when he launches OE, instead of going
right to a newsgroup, or the list of subscribed newsgroups on a particular
news server, it goes to the "Outlook Newsreader" page which shows general
information about the program, sort of like "Outlook Today" in Outlook. I
don't think there's any way around that. I can't even remember when it
behaved differently.

To the O.P., if my assumption is not correct, tell me EXACTLY what you're
seeing now and EXACTLY what you used to see. As the others have said, the
Outlook Newsreader has always been Outlook Express with the mail functions
disabled, so when you say "How can I get the newsreader to start opening
instead of OE?", it really doesn't make much sense.

From Outlook:

View> Goto> News
Once I click on News the OE 6 opens and I end up on the
page:
On top of the page is : Outlook Express for Jason
On the right side is Goto MSN
Below that are the menus: Find a Message, Identities,
Tips

Then three separate "paragraphs"

Email
I am told there are no unread Mail messages in the
Inbox.
I can a Create New Mail Message.
Read Mail

Newsgroups
Create a new News message
Read News
Subscribe to Newsgroups...

Contacts
Open the Address Book
Find People

The last line has a box I can check and it reads:
When Outlook Express starts, go directly to my Inbox.

I hope this helps you try to figure out my problem.
