Can anyone help. I bought a new computer in January and installed Windows
Vista in May, has worked well until last week. Now when i start my computer
about 30 or more pages open up, and today my Icons don't match the programs.
Is it ok to do a factory re-set?

If you mean reinstall the original setup that usually resets the system to
factory defaults, yes you can certainly do that. However, be advised, you
will lose all your data and need to start over with regard to application
installation.

The first thing you should do as opposed to the above and is run a virus
scan on your system and also check for malware that might be the source of
this issue.

A better description the opened 30 pages might help a bit as well. Do you
mean 30 Windows open or do you mean something else?

Thank you for answering. I mean 30 or more Internet Explorer pages open also
document and control panel pages open as well.

Well, this sure sounds like some malware you've picked up. Is there
anything you've installed recently, something you may have recently
downloaded and executed, perhaps some site you visited or something you
clicked on in a newsgroup that might have even triggered this?

If you can't think of anything, you might try using System Restore to take
your system back to a time prior to when this began. While it is only meant
to restore your settings and registry to a specified point in time, as a
precaution you should have your data well backed up. Start
Menu\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Restore.

Download it, install it, get the updates for it, then scan your computer.
Currently it scans for 70thou+ pieces of crap that you can get infected with.

Download and run Spyware S&D, also go to your control panel, open Windows
Defender and do a scan with that.

Have tried system restore, got icons matched with their programs now. Not
sure how to go beyond dates they give you to do an earlier restore.
