My new comp uses Windows XP, and at first it was fine, but now when I turn it
on, as it's loading it gets stuck on a black screen with an underscore
flashing in the upper left corner, right before the Windows logo comes up.
After a couple restarts it turns on normally, but it will stick for two or so
times first. I scanned for viruses and such but nothing came up, so if anyone
has any idea what's up, please help!

Thank you!

it might be hanging because of a piece of hardware. Disconnect all the
connections from the pc except mouse, kb and monitor.... see what happens...

Try disconnecting your USB printer (if you have one) and see if that
resolves the issue. If it does, you'll need a BIOS update from your PC maker
to fix the issue permanently.

if it's a laptop then you probably need to contact the mfg or visit its
help/support site since it is a hardware problem and not a windows
problem......

When you gain access to your normal windows, you need to check out your
system devices control panel and see if you have any yellow question marks.
If so, then disable them. You may have an illegal startup, but not sure.
Boot up in safe mode and ensure your wireless/internate connections is not
set to automatically run or your browser is not in the startup folder. Check
your virtual memory that it is not disabled and maybe set it manually to min
of 2 and max of 750. Then go to start > run > msconfig > startup tab >
disable all..... reboot to normal mode....
