Can anyone tell me if I can get to a start up window in
2000?...I am trying to find what programs are starting
when I boot my PC, but unlike other windows OS, If I go to
search, type in msconfig, I don't get the choice to see
what is starting up I have a nasty adware virus and I
can't remove it because there are files running. HELP!

Hello,

Here are the most likely places for startup items:
the WIN.INI file, section [windows], entries "run=" and "load="

Run Regedit and look for the following registry keys
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices

Check the following folders:
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\START MENU\PROGRAMS\STARTUP
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\{username}\START MENU\PROGRAMS\STARTUP

Win98 and WinXp have MSCONFIG, but Win2k does not... be VERY
CAREFUL what you disable, or your computer may not run at all
This program does that http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
