Start up ptrblem

When I try to start my computer I get these messages on a black screen:
If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or
because the Power or Reset button was pressed, or if you aren't sure what
caused problem, choosr Start Windows Normally.

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Promp

Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
Start Windows mormally

No matter what option I choose , it goes back to this same screen.

Any advice?

Hi,

Even Safe Mode with Command prompt? If so, boot the system with the XP CD
and enter the Recovery Console by hitting 'r' when first prompted. From the
prompt, run "chkdsk c: /r". Once complete, exit the console, remove the CD
and restart the system. If that does not help, you may need to do a repair
installation.

When I start up the computer with the XP CD, it does the same thing. Is
there a key that should be used during the start up using the CD?

Hi Ed,

It requires that the system BIOS boot order be set to boot the CD before the
hard drive.

Then you are not booting from cd, you may have to enter the bios and set
first boot device as cd

see if you can log in with recovery console
and use fixboot command at the c prompt.

if not then do a windows repair with the
setup cd

select new install, point to the o.s. on the
hd, and say yes to repair...
