Start-up Programs, Taksbar, & Desktop Icons WONT OPEN

Hello,
I recently shut off my Vaio PCV-RX550 for a week. I hadn't been
encountering any known problems.

Upon starting it back up, I noticed after the Welcome screen I see my
desktop without any icons, no Start Menu, no taskbar, & none of the Start-up
programs begin, (for example AIM, Yahoo Messenger, etc.).

I can start any program, or access any file by using the Task Manager
(Alt+Control+Delete) & using New Task, & everything seems to work fine, but
still no Start Menu, or taskbar.

I've tried re-booting, logging off, & a few other things, but nothing seems
to work. I'm worried my hard drive is about to die. Any suggestions on what
to do would be GREATLY APPRECIATED....& thank you for your time,
-Joe

Did you try to run explorer.exe in new task?

Hi Grego,
Yes, I did do that after a friend recomended it to me, & what happened was
it opened My Documents folder & nothing else. Then he said if that doesn't
work to right click My Computer & run Search...which also opens My Documents
& also pops up an error message saying "Unable to locate (null)."

I even went to my hard drive's Properties, & checked the status of the disk
drive...& it says it's working properly.

Also, went to Control Panel -> Appearance & Themes -> Taskbar & Start
Menu...except when I try to click on that, nothing happens...other choices
work fine, IE: Display or Folder Options.

My computer isn't running slower or anything either. This is just very
frustrating. Any ideas???
Thanks for your time,
-Joe

Hi

Try to boot from WinXP CD, and try Repair . It looks like you have problems
with Explorer.exe. Try this and tell me if it worked.

Best regards
