start up problems

When I turn my computer on I keep getting a dos prompt asking me to insert a
boot disk into drive a:/. I have been bypassing this problem by going into
my BIOS and setting my system to it's default settings. and then saving the
settings. My system then boots but extremely slow.
Under the advice of an earlier post I have replaced the battery on my
mother board. Yet I am still having the same problem. My BIOS reads as
follows: First boot : atapi cd rom, second boot: floppy, third:
floptical, fourth: 1st IDE hard drive

the first boot should be "Renovable device" in your case the floppy drive,
the second option should be the hard drive and the last option should be the
atapi cd rom. you can change this by going to the bios setup program and
then to boot. Hit the - or + sign to move the devices up or down.
