Start up Problems with Win 2000

Hi
Hope somebody can help, a friend is using Win2000 and keeps getting the
error message on startup can't open event.log, and can't continue to desktop.
I suggested using safe mode but the same error message appears. Win2000 is
installed on a notebook.

Can anybody help?
