I have a Win2000 problem on my other computer.
The computer boots, and I get the messege-

"The following files are missing or corrupt-
Windows 2000 root.\system32/ntoskrnl.exe
Please install a copy of the above file"

I hve lost win2000 CD's,floppies, etc
I have tried all safe mode options (F8), but I get the same above message
I would appreciate all help/suggestions
Thanks in advance

Sounds like a virus infection, and a nasty one.

What do you mean, lost? If you bought a valid copy you'll
have a license certificate. Call Microsoft and explain the
situation (but somehow I suspect you "lost" that as well).

Hi,
If you have another windows 2000 system at hand, copy three files: ntldr,
ntoskrnl.exe and boot.ini(all on c:) on a formatted floppy and then boot
through the floppy. The boot.ini should look like this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000-1"
/fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000-2"
/fastdetect
C:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdcons

Now, boot through this floppy in the normal mode. You will get two options
to boot from. Try to boot through the first one and if it does not boot up,
use the other one. Once, you boot up fine, change the c:\boot.ini and make it
same as the above written file.
