Start-up Problem

After I switch on the comp get following message
"We apologise for the inconvenience.......windows did not start
successfully. Recent hardware or software change might have caused it.
If your comp stoipped responding, restarted unexpectedly or was automaticall
shut down to protect your files/folders, cheese 'Last known good config' to
revert to the most recent settings that worked."
"If a previous startup attempt was interupted due to a power failure or
because the Power or Reset button was pressed, or if you arent sure what
caused the problem, choose 'Start Windows normally'."

"Safe Mode"
"Safe Mode with Networking"
"Safe Mode with Command Prompt"

"Last known config(your most recentsettings that worked"
"Start Windows normally" (This choice is highlighted)

"Use up down etc etc etc...."

By elimination of above, I chose the highlighted section Start Wiundows
normally.
Waited for the timer to run down, and up came the Windows logo with the blue
bar running across a small window. It does this 6 or seven times then stops
then screen goes blank.
The next thing to show on the screen is SIGNAL OUT OF RANGE followed by
POWER SAVER ACTIVE.
I then get a screen showing MSI, PENTIUM 4 AND CORE CELL logos.
The screen then reverts back to the original apology message.

The same thing happens if I select Last know config. I have NOT chosen any
of the Safe Mode options. This for me is uncharted territory.
The comp had started early in the morning with no probs. Switched off and
returned 2 hrs later and the above happened.
Nobody else touched it between times.
I am not away of any power failures during that time.
Help would be gratefully received

I had the exact same problem this morning. I wound up choosing "safe
mode" - when I got to an option to use "restore" I took that -
luckily I had a very recent restore point available - System re-booted
ok. Hope you have similar good luck.

Hi John
Thanks for the good wishes.
I cant get to Safe Mode to get at any of my restore points. Wish I could.
Whatever I do I just stay in the loop.
