Start up problem

Good morning,

Yesterday, I had a serious problems. My machine is Compaq Presario 1700, P
III- 850MHz, 256MB of RAM and operation system is XP Pro SP1. I use built-in
Compaq 10_100 MiniPCI Ethernet NIC to connect Internet.

Yesterday my computer was shut down itself when I was online. Many times I
was unable to start up, most of the time my screen was black out seems to be
hard disk or other hardware failed. Sometimes it came big red COMPAQ logo
with white blinking dot on the right top corner and then it has gone and
could not start up. After trying many times on and off and fortunately I was
able to start up and then after a few minutes again my computer crashed and
having the same problem. Again I was able to start up just like before then
I disconnected the cable modem and I use the system restore and it is still
working without any problems.

For the future precaution, I would like to get some help and I would like to
know the reason of happening like this. Yesterday I was quiet stressful and
thinking of hardware fail, it was my first time experience in my life.

Please kindly help me to help to take some precautionary measures.

Best regards,

Cael

Hi Richard,

Thank you for your response. I have two harddisks but I had the same
problems, so I think it is not the problem of hard disk. Now, my machine is
working fine only I am afraid if it is happen again. Some of my friends told
me that it should be the problem of network adapter, but I do not know.

Regards,

Cael

You might try to diagnose your HD for possible trouble. See for example

Hi good evening,

Today also again I had the same problem when I was online. Even though by
chance I did system restore but the problem remain as usual. I think my
harddisk has no problem and my system also has no virus. Fortunately, I
found something that, when I ventilated my machine by giving some space
between the table and the machine. Then, now it works and problem has gone,
so is it possible computer crash and shutdown itself when it was very hot?
In any case right now I don't have problem if I have again I'll request to
all of you for your advice.

best regards,

Cael
