Yesterday I posted a plea for help today the problem got worse. when I switch
my computer on the monitor goes into standby, I have to use the power on/off
switch to keep trying untill the monitor kicks in a lights up. Today after a
few attempts I got a band of coulered squares & numbers along the bottom, the
next time the whole screen was full of coulered squares the next time a black
screen with just a flashung curser in the top Lh corner. I have now got the
screen to light up, but am afraid of switching the computer off in case it
won't restart. yesterday someone said look in the device manager for an
exclamation mark against the graphics but I could find no mention of
graphics. any advice please before I have to pay a pro. my computer is 2yrs
old I got it direct from the manufacturers who have gone out of buisness

Hi Cleethorpes,
if you can I would first try connecting another monitor to the computer and
see what happens.
If you get the same problem then it is probably the graphics card. Is it
'onboard' graphics or seperate?

If it is onboard then buy a new graphics card (if your computer is only 2
years old then any cheap AGP card will do (if you are not gaming that is)
about £20 to £30 should do it. Open the side of the computer, slot the card
in to the only slot that it will fit in (usually the top big one and brown).
You might need to change the Bios settings to use it.
Sorted.
Good Luck,

P.S. If you live in Cleethorpes and you need someone to do this for you let
me know.

Please see my answer to your previous post. Please do not make new posts
with the same subject only a little while apart. Wait at least 24
hours. People who answer questions regularly are volunteers who live
all over the world and not necessarily in your time zone. Also,
amazingly, some of us have other lives.

If you cannot find your previous post, use Google Groups Advanced Search
and search for your name.
