Start up display?

When I start my computer, all the icons and the whole start task bar is all
wide and bigger than it normally is. How do I change it so that the size of
everything is normal? I tried looking for window preferences and can't find
it!! Someone help please.
 
right click an empty spot on the desktop
properties
settings
now change your screen resolution to something that matches your screen
