Dear all,
Have just bought myself an all singing all dancing HP pavillion dv6000,
very nice it is too, after my old Toshiba died. This came with XP home,
but as I have an upgrade to XP pro CD (SP2) that I put on the dead one,
I guess I can use it on this computer.

Chose the upgrade option. Started off well enough, then stopped saying
there was a problem, contact the system administrator (me). So I
restarted the computer and it took off with the upgrade where it left
off.

So far so good. XP activated just fine.

Now when it starts I get a choice:

either XP home (which when chosen starts and installs XP pro! I know
it's pro, because we have 8 other computers on a peer to peer network
and this computer can see and access files on all of them!)

or: XP upgrade startup (which stops instantly because hal.dll file is
missing (no it's not) or corrupted (possibly)).

The problem is, the XP upgrade startup option is the default so you have
to stand around when you start or re-start.

How can one change the default?

Can I delete the XP upgrade start up potion?

Can I edit the title of the XP home choice (to read something like XP
pro)?

Your answers as ever, awaited.

Regards

If there is only one you will get:
It appears that all BOOT.INI lines for Microsoft operating systems are OK.

A dialog box will open detailing the location of any invalid operating
system locations.

Similar to this...
-------------------
It appears that the following line in the BOOT.INI file does not refer to a
valid operating system:

"multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional " /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn"

Would you like to remove it from the BOOT.INI file?

Hi,

Can you type the path to them in the address bar of Windows Explorer?

\\Computer_name\Shared Docs

Hi,

I've seen this happen a few times, usually typing in the path name brings it
back to the share list.
