A few weeks ago my PC refused to shutdown from the START | TURN OFF COMPUTER
| TURN OFF. It won't restart either from the same path but selecting
RESTART. All it does is give a little tiny blink on the screen and then
just continues as if nothing had happened.
In reading some of the other posts I see that starting in SAFE MODE is my
next likely step. Can you give me some advice as to what I should be
looking for?
I've looked at the Event Log and see this message when I tried to power off
and there are other errors and warnings.
The attempt to power off [computer id] failed

I'm really struggling. Nothing really came up at that site because my
computer id number was in the message. But taking that out returned a
series of unrelated links. I'm not quite sure where to go from here.
Please give me some advice. I don't expect anyone to solve the problem for
me. But if you could point me in some direction I'd sure appreciate it. I
hate to take it to the shop. The last time they had it for 2 weeks. It's a
real computer shop, not the Geek Squad or anything like that. But if I
could solve this myself I'd really like to do that.
I thank you in advance for any assistance / advice / direction you can give
me.
