start page

it seams that MS has deceded that the only start page you
can have is the msn start page.
I have gone into SYSTEM EXPLORERS / Internet Exp Settings/
Change URL/Page setting. From there I remove the msn
start page, type in the new addy ( www.google.ca ) and
save, i get the pop box saying that the changes have been
recorded, click OK to finish, after clicking the OK it
resets to MSN Start Page.
I'am not happy with this. I like to pick what page opens
on my computer, Not being told what it is going to open
too. Thanks Harold. (e-mail address removed)

Hi Hal

As far as I know it will only reset the start page when
it removes spyware from your system, Its common for
malware to take over the IE pages such as search
assistant and home page so MS Antispy just reset's it to
default then you can change it to your desired address.

Try it this way. Open a IE window and goto Tools on the
top bar then to Internet Options. On the general tab you
will see the space provided for the home page, Enter
google's address in here and press apply.

This should then stay there untill the next time MSAS
removes spyware from your system.

Tools > Advanced Tools > Browser Hijack Settings
Restore. Change the settings you want to here BEFORE
trying to use System Explorer (suggest only using Browser
Hijack Settings Restore as some bugs with System
Explorer).

.
Andy thanks for the info, only problem with that is !
That was the frist place I went, but that box is froze
out and will not let me make any changes there. That was
why I started looking in MAS. and as I posted earlier
that it will let me make the page change, and shows a pop-
up saying that the change is done and click OK , after
clicking ok it changes it back to MSN home page.
I never had a problem getting into the home page box
under tools until I downloaded MAS. Thanks Harold

Hi Again

I do not understand what the problem is here so hopefully
some of the MVP's other experienced helpers can help you
out,

I have MSAS but do not have it protecting the IE pages
plus never use the SYSTEM EXPLORERS/Change URL/Page
setting so Im not sure whats gone wrong here. I
understand what you mean now and agree this is
restricting your choice of homepage if its now blanked
out in Internet settings.

Maybe try some of the other suggestions to this question
as they will have more experience with this feature of MS
Antispy. If this isnt solved though keep posting and Im
sure there will be someone who has the solution to this
if its not already been covered in the other posts,

Good Luck

Andy

ok thanks for all the help. But I found out how to change
it back, it seams that there is a hijack browser
restorer, it you change the addy in there, it makes that
page your default page. Hal
