Hijacker - IE Start page and Search

T

Tom

My customer has an internet explorer hijacker that changes the home page and
the search to about:blank. It seems to be affiliated with a
trojan.startpage virus that Norton AV does not permanently delete. The IE
start page and search default will restore to msn when I ask MS AntiSpyware
to restore, but next time I start IE the about:blank returns.

Another symptom is a file:

C:\Documents and Settings\User\Localsettings\Temp\se.dll

I cannot get rid of the se.dll.

Anyone know how I can kill this hijacker for good?

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom,
Boot into Safe Mode (F8) at startup;
Empty your temporary files AND your Temporary Internet Files C:\Documents
and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files folder ;
Run the scan while in safe mode;
If you are running SP2, open IE--->Tools--->Manage Add-ons, and uncheck any
BHO's that you don't recognize.

Thank you, Ron.

I will try this.
Will running the Windows XP disk cleanup utility with all items checked in
the files to delete list provide sufficient deletion of temp files?

Best Regards,

Tom
