Dear all,

as i encountered about:blank problem with the IE. Then, I
nstalled the msantispy and smoothly run the scan. It has
scanned and discovered hijackers, and suggested to remove.
I followed all the instructions and run scan again.
However, the same hijacker was found and the redirect my
page of IE to about:blank (which is a homepage with
searches of differect categories, and i even cannot get to
microsoft's windows' links!!)

and even worse, after a few try, and now i cannot open
Internet Explorer at home!! It says an error of
c:\docum~1\~.......se.dll.

Hope any expert here can help!!!

I experienced the same problem and researched for help.
Couldn't find any recommendations for help, only great
confusion. Hate to tell you this but I ended up sending
the hard drive out for recovery.

I have also encountered problems with about blank.
One of my friends brought me his computer which was
infected with about:blank. I installed MS Anti Spyware,
SpyBot, and AD Aware. All of these failed to remove this
spyware. I was able to reset his homepage, but received
many, many messages attempting to return his homepage to
about:blank.
He had system restore deactivated so I ended up
formatting and reloading windows. If you can restore
windows to a time before about:blank took control I would
recommend that. You could always back-up any personal
files you wish to save and perform a format reload. There
are also posts in CNETS forums (www.cnet.com; then search
for about:blank) that give guides to edit the windows
registry to remove about:blank, but I would rather avoid
messing with the registry. Also check CW Shredder and
About:buster. These are two programs that are soused to
remove some versions of about:blank, but I haven't had
any luck with them.
No matter what you do I would recommend adding
about:blank to the IE list of blocked sites. You might
want to consider upgrading from windows firewall. Zone
Alarm is a free firewall that has received great reviews
from C Net and Kim Komando (www.komando.com).
Microsoft needs to improve anti spyware for better
protection from about:blank and coolwebsearch. I have
encountered problems with both of these that their
program couldn't fix.

I am no expert, but you should do as I did: run microsoft

antispyware in SAFE MODE. this seems to have taken care of
my "About: blank" b.s. I'd lover to find out who the jags
are who wrote this trash!
