Start of recurring event.

Hi,

In events view of calendar items, the start field refers to the first
occurence of a recurring event rather than the next occurence. This is
really fiddly for (say) generating a list of upcoming events in order.

Anyone know a workaround?

Thanks,
Sam

That's because recurring events are only single entries, with the
recurrences being calculated in the Day/Week/Month views based on the
starting date and recurrence value. You said "generate a list of upcoming
events". Where do you want this list to be?

Hi Brian, Thanks for the response. That's what we suspected.

Ideally I'd like things like a list / table of the events in the next week
(eg the default "events" view in OL2003 which we're using) to list the events
in the chronological order of the events actually occurring in the coming
week rather than the chrono order of the first occurance of the event.

It might be that we need to resort to not using recurring events at all, but
if anyone knows a work around (perhaps sorting only by day of the week,
though that's not ideal; or somehow generating and then using another date
field) it would REALLY be appreciated :)

Thanks again,
Sam

Well, I can suggest a work-around, but it's a tad cumbersome. Create
another calendar folder and copy the recurring event and all the single
events for the next week to it. Then click File>Import and Export>Export to
a file. Select the "Comma Separated Values (Windows)" file type and click
Next. Select that calendar folder you created that contains only the single
recurring event and choose Next. Browse to an appropriate folder and give
your CSV file a name. Click Next, then Finish. You'll get a "Set Date
Range" dialogue asking you to choose a date range, since infinitely
recurring events can't be exported to a CSV (or the CSV would consume your
entire disk). Select a range covering the next week and click OK. Now, go
back to that calendar folder you created and delete the recurring event.
CLick FIle>Import and Export>Import from another file or program>Next.
Choose "COmma Separated Values (Windows)" and click Next. Browse to the CSV
file you exported and click Next. Select the extra calendar folder and
click Next, then Finish. When the import completes, your extra calendar
folder will have the week's events, including the formerly recurring event
and individual entrys.

Hi Brian,
That's great - we can use that method to change all recurring events to
separate events in a single operation and then import new "recurring" events
changed into into separate events. Most of the events which get added later
won't be recurring. We then don't need to use the method each time.
Thanks,
Sam
