hi,

i was wondering if anyone could tell me how,if it is
possible, to change the "windows xp home edition" banner
form the side of the startmenu when viewed in the classic
start menu view.

Right click on vacant area of task bar and select "Properties".

Click "Start Menu" tab.

Select "Classic Mode" and click on "Customise"

In window at bottom, scroll down and look for:-

"Show small icoms in start menu"

(2nd from bottom on mine)

Click on that and make sure a tick appears next to it.

Click "OK" twice (2 windows)
