When I add a folder and name it to the programs in start menu it stays there
for a few days then it disappears. What is deleting it and what is the fix?
Thank you.

No, the folder I add is not "pinned" in the window that opens when you click
on "start". It is only added to the "programs" option when you click on
"all programs". Im sure you know what I mean. Thank you. Mahlon

Are there more than one user on the system? If so, this thread suggests
you copy the shortcuts to the "\All Users\Start Menu\Programs" folder so
they're seen:

Also try these Kelly tweaks:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Line 31. (r-h column) Disable Changes Made to the Start Menu - Undo

(If the Undo link works, I wonder if some malware is present and it
imposed this restriction.)

Line 117. Restore Taskbar and Start Menu

Line 161. Hide Start Menu Subfolders - Undo (Try the "Undo" again)

Line 165. Disable/Enable Start Menu Subfolders
(Same thing, only different?)

Scroll down to "Start Menu - Add Shortcuts To Start Menu".

fix?

Hmmm, it sounds like Personalized Menus is on, except that from “All Programs”
it sounds like you are using the XP Start Menu instead of the Classic Start
Menu, but there only seems to be an interface to disable personalized menus for
classic.
