Missing Icon

M

Mahlon

Hi,
I have an emachine computer with a Smartlink modem. I use Netzero dial
up connection, and there was always a little blinking icon in the right hand
tray beside the clock whenever I was online. Recently I had to replace my
main board and reinstall win xp, but now the little blinking icon is no
longer there. Instead there is a Netzero icon. How do I get the Smartlink
icon back as before? Thank you. Mahlon

This is a reply I recieved.....
Click Start, Control Panel, Network Connections, "Local Area Connection",
"General" tab, "Properties" button, "General" tab, Check "Show Icon in
notification area when connected", Click "OK", "Close"

Then this is my (Mahlon) responce....
Thank you for the prompt reply. I know all about the option in "network
connection". That is not what I am asking. As I explained I want the icon
that goes with the smartlink modem to work as before my motherboard was
replaced. And this particular icon automatically placed itself in the
launch tray after I was connected. I did not have to manually set the icon
to appear as you suggested. All I want is that the function will work as
before without me having to go in "network connections" to manually set this
option every time I go online. I hope you know what I'm saying and that you
can help me. Thank you. Mahlon

So can anyone help me????? Mahlon

You shouldn't have to set the option every time. Once its set, it stays that way.

Thank you for the reply. No, it does not stay that way. I have checked the
option many times to display the dial up icon in the launch tray when I
connected using Netzero, and believe me it did not stay that way. I always
had to check the option every time I connected. As I explained, smart link
has its own icon, and before I installed a new mother board that icon was
automatically placed in the launch tray. Now it does not appear, but the
Netzero icon does appear which I do not want. I hope you know what I'm
explaining, and hope you can help me. Thank you Mahlon

Then you missed something in the driver/software installation. Its not clear whether you want the Windows standard icon, the Netzero icon or the icon from some software that may have come with your modem.

Check the NetZero software and see if there is an option to display its icon. If so, it may be overriding the Windows setting.
