Start menu trouble i Vista

Hi...

Many of the shortcuts fastened to my Vista start up menu do not start their
designated programs.
When I right click and choose "Properties" there is nothing in the field
where the start folder is to be.
Even if I paste in the right path it do not work.
The only way to start f.ex Microsoft Excel is to click my way down the
dungeons of the start menu to the Microsoft Office folder to find the
original shortcut.

A lot of work, if you ask me...

What can be wrong?
I run Windows Vista Ultimate with all updates on a self built up to date
stationery computer.

Many is all of the shortcuts to any MS Office application in the "recently
used area" and the "add to start"-menu area plus the link to Safari the web
browser...

Yes I have removed and readded the shortcuts in question, in vain...

I have also right-clicked the very same shortcuts, and chosen to restore
them to an earlier working version, still in vain...

Is there a registry tweak I can do, perhaps...?....hmm...
