Start Menu-removing Documents

Stu

I recently had to reload XP Pro. I did have "Documents" deleted from the
Start Menu by changing something in the registry, by I can't remember how I
did It. Can anyone refresh my memory? Thanks. Stu

Control Panel > Taskbar and Start Menu > Start Menu tab - Customize
button > Advanced tab > Start menu items: My Documents - Don't display
this item

Avoid working in the registry if at all possible.

I'm using the Classic Start Menu. Even if I switch to the regular start
menu, what you described only removes "My Documents" not "My Recent
Documents" which is what I'm trying to remove. I know it can be done
through the registry, I've done it before.

The easiest way to accomplish your goal is to download and run this registry
fix.

Line 16, right hand column, Add Recent Documents to the Classic Menu
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

After running this registry fix, right click your Taskbar and select Properties
from the menu. Click on the Start menu tab and hit the Customize button next to
Classic Start Menu. In the Advanced Start menu options box you'll now see a new
section titled Recent Documents Menu. If you don't want to see the documents
you've opened recently listed check "Don't Add to Documents Menu". If you want
to remove the Documents entry from the menu check "Hide Documents Menu". Click
OK twice.

Here's an article you may find helpful if you prefer to edit the registry
yourself.

Disable Recent Documents History
http://www.pctools.com/guides/registry/detail/545/

If you're trying to remove the Documents entry in its entirety from the classic
Start menu you need to have a value in the same registry key named
NoRecentDocsMenu set to 1.

Keep in mind that you may need to log off and back on for the changes to occur.

Good luck
