I have recently installed XP Pro (sp2) and I've noticed that when I open the
start menu, at the top I see my name but not my icon. How can I view my icon
next to my name please? I've searched google for 'show user start menu icon'
etc but have found nothing. Thanks for any help here.

Go to the control panel and click on User Accounts, re-
establish your picture and screen name, SP2 may have just
taken that setting and cleared it.

Good Luck and Happy Holidays

I am also having this problem and there doesn’t seem to be any info about it
available, I tried what the second poster suggested but to no avail and when
checking the status of "Way a user log's on/off" I got another obtuse XP
error messages saying "Something was installed that disabled these options,
uninstall it then get back to us. Oh and if it helps we think it was a
program installed on your hard drive."

OK found a solution that worked for me.

Go to this address http://windowsxp.mvps.org/ginadll.htm and download the
file they talk about called "ginadll.reg" (link at the bottom of the page)
and double click the file to apply it to your registry, after that follow the
steps the second poster suggested then log off then log on again and it
should be back.

Hi,

Per the former:

1. Are you using the Welcome Screen/Fast User Switching?
2. Have you disabled Picture and Fax Viewer? If so: Go to
Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 shimgvw.dll
3. Do/did you have Styles XP or the similar installed?

Per the latter:

"Logon User Interface DLL Msgina.dll failed to load" error message after you
install the MS04-003 security update:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;836683

The msgina.dll (Graphical Identification and Authentication dynamic-link
library) should be listed in C:\Windows\System32 - Application extention.

This can happen if you installed PCA, VPN Cisco Client, etc. Normally
removing any of the above, the msgina.dll is replaced.

Check here for gina.dll, ginamsi.dll, or CSwgina.dll if either is listed,
remove it, reboot.

Start/Run/Regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\WinLogon.
In the right pane, remove the entry for (XX)Gina.DLL.

Or...

Restore the Windows XP Welcome Screen (Gina.dll) Line 45 - Right hand side
