Start Menu Most Recent Programs

My Start Menu no longer displays Most Recent Programs though it is set to
show six. Clearing the list or changing the number of programs has no
effect. When I 'Pin to Start Menu,' the program icons appear to pile atop an
invisible list. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
 
Somewhat resolved the Most Recent Program issue by setting list to 0 then
manually pinning favorite programs to menu.
