Right clicking the Start Menu Button no longer gives me
any menu. Items listed in C:\Documents and
Settings\John\Start Menu and C:\Documents and
Settings\All Users\Start Menu folders do not appear in
the Classic or [new] XP Start Menu. All Programs does
nothing in the XP Start Menu. However, Programs in the
C:\..\John\Start Menu\Programs folder appear under the
Programs part of the Classic Start Menu.
This all happened after I copied every Start Menu entry
from C:\..\All Users to C:\..\John so it would have a
full set as it seemed any item from either set was
displayed in the Start Menu, then deleted the All Users
set as I assumed I did not need both. I also edited the
registry
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Us
er Shell Folders to relocate My Documents, Favorites and
a few other things. Furthermore, I edited that part of
the registry to relocate Start Menu, Programs and
Startup, moved those items from their Start Menu
locations within C:\..\John to a different drive, then
changed my mind and moved them back. I ended up copying
all Start Menu Items, including Programs, from C:\..\John
to C:\..\All Users to restore a full set. I may also have
done some other things to the registry I cannot remember.
Can anyone help me to recover my Start button right click
menu and Start Menu item display, including programs on
the XP Start Menu?
