I have quite a few programs installed, so to keep the list of programs
in the start menu from filling up the screen, I've used Windows Explorer
to add subfolders for different program categories under "Start
Menu\Programs". I then put groups of related programs into a subfolder.
When I go to do this, I've found some of my programs are in the
"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu" hierarchy, and others
are in the "C:\Documents and Settings\John\Start Menu" hierarchy.
When a program installation asks me if I want the program to be
available for all users, I always say "yes", but most programs don't
ask. I'm the only user on this computer.
To make things easier, I've moved all programs that show up in the
"C:\Documents and Settings\John\Start Menu" hierarchy to the
"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu" hierarchy. So far, I
haven't noticed any problems as a result of doing this. Is there any
reason why I shouldn't continue doing this on a new computer I just
built? If there is some un-obvious problem that might crop up later, I'd
like to know about it now. Thanks!
