Start Menu Folders won't rename?

Hi Folks,

I am trying to get cascading menus for Control Panel and Printers in my
Start Menu. They cascade but the folders don't rename themselves to simply
"Control Panel" and "Printers" . They stay "Control
Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}" and
"Printers.{2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D}" which makes my Start Menu
4 times as wide as it should be.

I've followed the directions from this Microsoft site:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q134849

many times, rebooted many times, but the "Control Panel" and "Printer"
folders just won't shorten to a reasonable length. Any ideas why they don't
rename themselves the way they should?

Thank you in advance. Larsee

The information in this article applies to:

* Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
* Microsoft Windows 98
* Microsoft Windows 95
* Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4.0
* Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0

Right click the START button and choose Properties.

If you're using the Classic Start Menu, click Customize... and make the
appropriate choice in the bottom of the dialog.

If you're using the new XP two column start menu, click Customize... and
select the Advanced tab. Select the appropriate items in the middle of the dialog.

In the registry, go to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}

In the right pane, right-click and create a new string value named "NeverShowExt" & leave its data
blank. Do the same for the Printers CLSID. Check out the entry under:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile

for an example. You will need to kill/restart explorer or logoff/logon for the changes to take
effect.

Emailed you at 5:23 pm today. Did you receive? Using the cajun.net address I had on file -- is
that still valid?

Hi Keith,

No, but I did receive your email to my mvpg.org and responded. My cajun.net
died along with dial-up since my move in December. :blush:)

Yes, by Fax. Try it. :blush:) BTW, if sent that way, some of the options
offered via the link to Keith can be skipped.
