Start menu flashing

When I move the mouse to the lower left corner all of the
menu boxes start popping up and flashing (ie: start menu)
Mouse discontinues working and have to re-boot. Help! This
is happening more and more!

This sounds like the x-mouse setting except that I'd expect you to be
far more aware of it than this example.
Take a look at Control Panel\ TweakUI\ mouse \x-mouse
Basically the presence of a mouse in an area makes something an active
window with no necessity to click.
If it has been chosen, clear it. If not, well, it might work to opt
for the setting, apply, okay, reboot. See whether things have changed.
Opt out, apply, okay, reboot.
