Start menu + application menu transparency issues.

Hello Friends!
I am having a trouble with my start menu and application menus. They
all appear with a shadow border around them, however, the central part
of the window is transparent. Although you cannot see the icons in the
menus, you can still click on them and launch files -- you just cannot
see what you are clicking on.
I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling graphics card
drivers, along with changing the theme (a fix i found elsewhere in this
group) to no avail. Any quick tips or tricks before I start formatting?

Thanks! Brian

It looks like a combination of the Classic and XP Start Menus.

Make sure that the Themes service is set to Automatic and running.

Open Services...
Start | Run | Type: services.msc | Click OK |
Scroll down to and double click Themes | Click the V next to Startup type |
Select Automatic | Click the Apply button | Click the Start button |
When the Themes service has started, click OK | Close Services

If that doesn't do it, visit here...

Read the instructions at the top.

One of these ought to help.

187. Restore Themes Functionality

187. Right hand side
Restore Luna Theme

214. Right hand side
Windows XP Style Changes to Windows Classic

271. Stuck in Classic View? Undo Now

Troubleshooting Themes in Windows XP

If Luna.theme was missing and you downloaded it (187. Right hand side
Restore Luna Theme).

Luna.theme belongs in
C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes
or
%windir%\Resources\Themes

Hope this helps. Let us know.
