Standby problem

Background:
I've set Pwr Mgt to shutdown monitor after 5 min, hard
disks after 10, standby after 15 and hibernate after 3
hours.

Problem:
Often, but not always, when I bring system back from
standy, Windows XP loses sight of the CD-ROM drives and
the only way to get them re-recognized is to power down
completely and restart (warm boot does no good).

Only happens during the standy period ie. > 15 minutes
and < 3 hours.

Any thoughts?

Yes: Stop using standby or hibernate. Not the answer you want to hear, but
it may be the only one. The problem is likely that the controller cable
drivers are not supporting the standby function properly. Unless you can
find an upgrade, chances are that you are going to have to suffer without
that function. Personally, I'd try running without hibernate and see if the
issue still occurs - you may be able to still use standby.
