Hard disk & monitor spring back after varying intevals of time, using first
start->turn off->standby, then later power management enablilng power switch
to effect standby. Have tried closing systray apps and turning off cable
modem. No success. The help files don't point to a trouble shooter for
standby. So far, haven't found solution in MS online. If that's due to
faulty searching, please supply a pointer, where to find...Suggestions
greatly appreciated.

Hardware waking it up? Wireless mouse or keyboard? Software update set
to wakeup to check?

No wireless,Bob. I've tried Pausing A/V, exiting firewall, time update, mobo
temp monitor, no help there. Maybe a new large app, Nero Home Essentials,
glitched operation of standby, but I don't know how that would work. That
app does not call home (unless I've missed something in one of the many
settings).
