Standby mode

I was wondering what is the proper way to wake your
computer from standby. Sometimes pressing the power
button works, but most of the time it doesn't. If someone
could get back to me about this that would be great.

I use XP and when I want to wake up the computer again
after it is in Standby Mode, I simply move the mouse and
the screen appears.
