Hi Neil,
It's a driver problem. Both the sound card and the one supporting the
internet connection do not properly support the standby function. For the
sound card, update it if one is available from the web site of the
manufacturer. For your internet connection, as you did not specify what type
of connection you had, you need to update the card driver as well (be it a
modem or ethernet card or what have you).
You may find that no update is available, in this case the only solution may
be to not use the standby function. You may also have some luck by reducing
the powerdown state in the system bios. If currently set to S3, you may find
better results by using S2 for example.
