Standby/Hybernate

After shutdown using Standby or Hybernate, my computer
cycles on and off. Only way to insure complete shutdown
is to "turn off"
Would prefer Standby of Hybernate.
Any clues?
Thanks, Jp

Hello!
Check the Power mangement.
It may require updated drivers. Power management features, especially
standby and hibernation, rely on device drivers that support power
management in addition to compatible hardware. Incompatible video
drivers prevent these features from working. The built-in VGA driver,
for example, is a bare-bones driver that doesn’t support power management.

There is some piece of hardware which is not compatible with standby or
hibernation. When you go into standby or hibernation you are getting a fatal
error which results in a reboot. Normally some pieces of hardware which can
cause this problem are: video card and sound card drivers, zip drivers,
scanner drivers. I would recommend that you make sure all your hardware
drivers are up todate and XP compatible.

Let Ed Bott & Carl Siechert in "Microsoft Windows XP Inside Out", Microsoft
Press, have the final word:

"Power management features --- in particular, standby and hibernation rely
on device drivers that support power management in addition to compatible
hardware. In particular, incompatible video drivers prevent these features
from working. The built-in VGA driver, for example, is a bare-bones driver
that doesn't support power management. If standby and hibernation don't
work, install an updated driver for your display adapter." p306
