Standby/hibernate issues

A

Adam

I recently upgraded my notebook pc from windows xp home
to xp pro. I have done all the updates for drivers, and
programs possible from the windows website.

I am getting an error 50 cannot enter standby mode, and
the same error for entering hibernate mode. As well, the
standby/hibernate function is greyed out in the
start/shutdown menu.

Thirdly, i no longer have a hibernate tab in the power
options menu.

Can anyone please help,

Regards,
Adam ([email protected]).

I don't claim the following will work for you but it did for me.

Got to Device Manager (right click 'My Computer' and select
Properties>Hardware>Device Manager).

Click on the + in front of 'Display adapters' and right click on
whatever is shown directly beneath (e.g. if you have an nVidia card
you might see something like 'NVIDIA GeForce 5200'). Select
Uninstall.

You will be prompted to reboot your machine and XP should find
default drivers on restart.

Either run Windows Update and look for any driver updates it might
offer you or ,if you have one, insert the cd that came with your
graphics card and reinstall from that.

HTH.
