Standby gone BYE BYE ?

I am having problems getting my pc to go into Standby mode.
I've read all of the setups, directions, etx., but it still won't go into
standby.
The only thing I can think of is I have late night setups for antivirus
scans, Spyware, etc., scheduled to run during down time.
Do all programs have to be logged out ?
The hibernate behaves the same way.
Can anyone offer any assistance ?

In the past when I've had this problem I've had luck upgrading my BIOS to
the latest version. I had a computer that was erratic in this regard. After
down loading and installing the latest BIOS version for the machine it
became flawless.
