standby doesn't work

Standby mode has stopped working. I've checked power options and it doesn't
even work if selected from start-shutdown.

It's an HP pc running MCE 2005. There's also a remote control and the
standby button on that doesn't work either. Everything used to work great.

Can anyone help?

Hi there

I am also experiencing a problem similar to this. My computer won't go
into standby or hibernation - it gets to the blue xp screen saying
"preparing to standby" (or similar...not sure of the exact words) and
it hangs on this screen and doesn't standby or hibernate. I've tried
various methods of correcting the problem, such as removing the windows
genuine validation tool (as this had previously caused the same problem
but was removed by using system restore), I've uninstalled the power
driver and reinstalled it (for ACPI functions) as advised by HP but
still no luck. I've not been able to use system restore this time round
to correct the problem, as it stopped working too! I now have system
restore working again, but not to take me back to before this problem
occurred.

I've tried the links posted above, but not had much luck really.

Anyone got any ideas?

I'm using a hp pavillion ze5604ea, win XP SP2.

Mine doesn't do anything if I try to standby - it's as if I didn't even press
the button.

same problem solved: go to start, control panel, system, device manager, go
to network right click, two boxes, one says let computer turn on standby,
uncheck it and it will work until u move the mouse or hit a key.

.. Have to manually shut down and then boot up.
I have the same problem. Cannot boot up from "Standby" Thanks Jerry, but
have followed your instructions, and there aren't the 2 boxes you describe in
device manager under "network".

System restore has also stopped working. Have tried several restore points.
These problems are occurring since I installed service pack 2. Can I remove
? If so how??!!
Many thanks
