On August 10, 2004, I installed the final version of XP SP2. For a few days
everything worked much better than before and much, much better than now.

On September 15, 2004 there was a WindowsUpdate for the .NET Framework 1.1
Service Pack 1. Since then several feature of my Windows XP Home Edition do
not perform correctly. In my system all device drivers and either Windows
Publisher or WQHL Certified. So it is not the drivers. Also since it worked
correctly between August 10 and September 15, it is not cause by Nero, Divx
or anyother software I had installed prior to September 15.

The reason I am publishing this question is in case somebody with the same
situation has develped a solution. By the way, if I set my Power Scheme to
Max Battery then the PC goes into standby at 20 minutes; however, if I permit
the system to go into Hibranate then it will fix when trying to wake up and I
must perform a hard reboot. This sound like somebody at Microsoft has more
work to do.

Do some clean boot troubleshooting to see if it is one of the apps or
services interfering:

Thank you for your advise; however it seems that you misread my post. If you noticed I said that Standby worked when I set my Power Scheme to Standby after 20 minutes. If you recall this was a problem before SP1 when the Task Manager was resetting the counter every 30 minutes; therefore if you programmed for a standby > or = 30 minutes the Task Manager would prevent your system from going into Standby Mode. In addition, I am able to also manually force Standby in the System Logoff Panel. Although I know very little about the inner workings of Windows XP it seems to me that some module killed the patch applied in SP1 to repair this programming annamoly.

By the way, in my case, removing all the startup programs did not help
resolve the problem. Probably because all my drivers are either Microsoft
Publisher or WQHL Certified. My third party software vendors all work
closely with Microsoft, ie.,Symantec. Adobe & MS Office 2003. I also use
Outlook Express and MSIE 6.

There are also services to check that can be disabled from msconfig, not
just programs. And do know that any driver can cause a problem even if
they are WQHL certified. That just means at the point they were tested
on the machine configuration they were tested on, they worked. It
doesn't guarantee they will work in the specific environment of your
machine. Also know that Symantec products have caused tons of problems
both pre and post SP2. Some people won't have any Symantec products
near their system. If I were you I would start by disabling all
symantec services and programs. Again there is no such thing as 3rd
party software that is guaranteed to work with any operating system.

Several days ago I set the Power Scheme to Standby after 25 minutes and my system is working normally and recovers normally from Standby. I which I had a setting for 29 minutes but this will do until it gets fixed.

No, it shows up as a reply in my newsreader. Why do you ask?
