standby conflict with scanner

Hi.

win2000 pro on HP desktop.

I use an Acer scanner that uses Mirascan software. The driver is the
"EPPScanner" option that is built into windows.
when the system attempts to go into standby mode (after 10 min. idle), I get an
alert that the scanner driver won't let it. What on earth do I do now -- stop
scanning or don't use standby? I would like to do both.

When the operating system begins to go into standby mode, it polls each
driver giving it a chance to do any cleanup it needs. For instance, a disk
driver might need to write out what is in it's cache. Older and misbehaved
drivers may not correctly acknowledge this which would result in the
behavior you've seen.

Possible solutions:
Check to see if there is a newer driver. A generic scanner driver may also
fit the bill.
A bit more drastic, but you could unload the driver (disable the scanner)
when you aren't using it.
