first i'm absolutely lousy with puters. was having problems with a machine
that's been stable for probably five years. tried everything ended up doing
a complete install of xp pro. always used the standby button on keyboard
instead of shutting down machine. now that option doesn't exist in the
advanced power tab. i can put in standby with the power button or with mouse
on start tab. tried installing latest drivers for video card and monitor.
also did all updating on xp wtih service pack 3. please help and remember i'm
terrible with puters. boot is something i wear and file is something i use to
shape metal. THANKS

You need to install all of the hardware drivers from your computer
manufacturer...

Visit the computer manufacturer's website, support (downloads) section, find
your model of computer and get the latest drivers (motherboard chipset,
video device, audio device, network device, etc...) and install them.
