Standalone COAs -- A coincidence

A few days ago, there was a thread about buying standalone COAs. Just today,
I got a System Builder email about standalone COAs with info about lawsuits
recently filed.

The email stated "there is no legitimate way to buy a stand-alone COA" and
on the web it says that COAs are not licenses.

Suits included distributors of the standalone COAs and at least one computer
builder who was using the COAs on systems they built and sold.

The link to information on the cases is on the Partner section of MSs web,
so I don't know if it's generally accessible or not. Anyone who is a partner
can look it up and confirm it, though.

Needless to say, people will do what they want to do, but if someone is
really concerned whether it's legitimate or not (as opposed to how likely it
is they'll get caught) this answers the question pretty well.

I got the same email. with the named vendors being prosecuted. Looks like
they are getting serious.
