stand by shuts down windows

something recently happened, don't know what. When I press standby the
computer goes to stand by but in coming out it restarts windows.

Any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Something in your hardware doesn't like coming out of standby. You could
turn off Automatic restart and see what the error message is or look in
event viewer to see if it's logged. (look them up in Help and support if
you can't find them)

Bob: Thanks: I do not know how to turn off automatic restart. I have looked
in the event log but am not sure what the error is I am looking for. Any
other suggestions is appreciated.

Since you didn't find Automatic restart in Help and support, do it this way.

R-click on "My Computer", select Properties, select Advanced, towards
the bottom click the "Settings" button in the "Startup and recovery"
section. Now in the "System failure" area UNcheck "Automatically
restart" and Check "Write an event to the system log". OK, Apply, OK.
Now the next time it happens you should have and error screen AND there
should be an entry in the viewer with a time matching the crash.
